Thoughtful And Supportive Same-Sex Divorce
On June 26, 2015, the United States Supreme Court issued a groundbreaking legal opinion in which marriage between two persons of the same sex was deemed legal and valid. Marriage was declared a fundamental right of U.S. citizens, straight or gay.
Before the Supreme Court ruling, I was one of the Phoenix area lawyers who was sensitive to the issues that arise in same-sex families. With the new era that has dawned, I look forward to continuing a special relationship with LGBTQ couples.
My Unique Experience Will Work For You
Because of the ruling, LGBTQ couples can marry, divorce and enjoy the same protections under state law as heterosexual partners. Since Arizona is one of only a handful of community property states, this protection is invaluable during division of property and determination of spousal support (alimony).
It also allows same-sex couples to return to their maiden names upon issuance of the divorce decree. Same-sex couples are now bound by the same duties and responsibilities that are part of the marriage contract.
